Paper IO

Paper IO is a territory-control game with a simple premise. You move across a grid leaving a trail, and when you close a loop back to your territory, everything inside becomes yours. The catch is that while outside your zone drawing a trail, you are vulnerable — if anyone crosses your trail, you die.

That vulnerability is the entire game. Claiming territory means leaving safety, and the more you claim at once, the longer your exposed trail. A greedy run for huge land can end instantly when a rival clips your trail. The tension between ambition and caution is every excursion a decision.

Playing against others adds strategy. You can hunt rivals mid-trail, clipping their lines to eliminate them. The map is a constant negotiation — when to expand, when to defend, when to attack.

It is easy to understand and hard to master. For players who enjoy area-control games with direct player-versus-player interaction, Paper IO nails that format.
